Amex Q3: $0.74 of $5.42 GAAP EPS (~14%) sits outside adjusted; core EPS growth 13% on 9% revenue

American Express (AXP) reported Q3 this morning: GAAP EPS of $5.42, up 31%, and adjusted EPS of $4.68, up 13%. It also raised its full-year guide to $17.60 to $17.90.

The 31% is flattered. $0.74 a share, about 14% of GAAP EPS, sits outside the adjusted number. Amex also booked a $982M pretax gain on its GBTG sale. Core growth of 13% on revenue up 9% is still solid. Shares were down 1% premarket.
