Conductor Cloud users are getting about a week's notice before their sandbox goes away. Meta has acquired Conductor, the startup behind a macOS app that runs multiple coding agents simultaneously in isolated copies of a Git project. No price was announced, and co-founder and CEO Charlie Holtz shared the news in a blog post.
The wind-down timeline is what stuck with me. Conductor Cloud, the hosted sandbox for agents, goes read-only on November 13 and shuts down completely on November 20, when the company says it will start deleting cloud user data.
The Mac app keeps working "for the next few months," but starting in early 2027 it stops getting new models and critical bug fixes. A Meta spokesperson said the deal "will strengthen the company's developer-oriented AI capabilities" and declined to elaborate.
This is Meta's fourth AI-oriented acquisition move of 2026, after Moltbook, Assured Robot Intelligence and Stilla, and after China blocked its $2B bid for Manus AI in April. The same week, OpenAI said it plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, maker of Code Storage, following its purchase of Ona a few months ago. Anthropic's most recent developer-tools buy was Stainless in May.
The big labs are clearly buying up agent developer tooling. My read for anyone building on top of a small agent-infra startup right now: have an exit plan ready, because a week of notice is apparently what you might get.
