Intel closed down 28.6% on Friday, its worst one-day drop since 1974. This morning the premarket indication was around -26%, so the close managed to be even worse. A Q4 guide that badly missed estimates will do that.

What caught my attention is how far it spread. The Nasdaq fell 2.86% to 25,437, its biggest one-day percentage drop since June 5. The S&P 500 lost 1.82% to 7,580, its worst day since June, closing out a third straight losing week. The Dow shed 572 points to 51,770. The Nasdaq now sits about 7.8% below the all-time closing high it set on October 6.

The driver was disappointing results from Intel and Amazon, which deepened a worry that's been building for a while: whether all the AI-related capital spending is going to pay off. One company missing on guidance is a stock story. When it drags the whole market lower, investors are telling you they're rethinking the bigger bet.

My read is that the patience window on AI capex is getting shorter. Three losing weeks in a row suggests the market wants evidence of returns, and forward guidance is where it's going to look first. I'd watch the next round of outlooks closely, because that's where this question gets answered.
