Boeing's Q3 told 737 customers, suppliers and anyone holding $BA for a cash recovery the same thing on October 27: plan around a slower ramp. The quarter itself was mixed, but the production timeline is what moved the stock.
- Core loss came in at $0.34 a share versus roughly $0.21 expected, while revenue of $24.19B beat the $23.84B LSEG estimate. Shares initially rose to $188.94 on that revenue beat.
- On the call, CEO Kelly Ortberg said stabilizing the 737 at 47 a month runs into 2027, Boeing will miss its 500-delivery target for 2026, and 52 a month is now an H2 2027 goal.
- Shares reversed to close at $168.18, down 10.69%, near the $167.41 low. October 28 premarket sits at $168.32, basically flat.
- Baird cut its target to $230 from $300 and Morgan Stanley to $195 from $225. Q3 free cash flow was positive at $464M against a $745B backlog.
My read: airlines waiting on jets and investors waiting on cash both got a longer timeline, and the $745B backlog only matters as fast as rate 47 holds. I'd want proof of that stability before treating this drop as a dip worth buying, though I could be wrong if the line settles sooner.
