Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon this week, two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon. That's a fast cadence for something they're calling their strongest frontier model, and this one leans hard into cybersecurity and long-horizon work.

The numbers are Google's own, so treat them that way. Google says Carbon ranks #1 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 with a score of 59. On security, Google reports 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for vulnerability finding, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploitation, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching. Google says the external benchmark runs were done without guardrails.

Introductory pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output, matching Argon's introductory rates, with a 95% discount on cached input. Google says those rates rise to $4 and $20 once the introductory period ends. Access starts with a subset of cybersecurity defenders through the Fairwind Program, with staged access for trusted partners.

Developers, businesses and consumers come later. Google also says it is actively engaged in the US government's voluntary pre-release testing process.

Those three security scores come from different benchmarks, so I wouldn't read 88.2% versus 71.0% as a clean finding-versus-fixing rate. The real bet is the gating. Giving defenders the head start makes sense to me.

My question is how long that head start lasts once comparable capability shows up from labs that don't gate access the same way. For the stock, Carbon isn't the story right now. Alphabet's Q3 missed estimates after the close, and shares fell roughly 10% after hours from a $324.89 close on the miss and worries about AI spending.
