Nvidia is using its leverage over cloud partners to steer where AI services end up, and that reads to me as a company getting ahead of Washington before Washington gets to it.
- The Financial Times, citing five people with knowledge, reports Nvidia verbally told cloud clients to direct at least 51% of services to non-Chinese companies.
- Per the FT, the requirement covers future contracts only. Agreements already signed stay as they are, so near-term revenue at these partners looks untouched.
- Nvidia neither confirmed nor denied the rule to AFP. Its statement backed American-built data centers and clouds competing worldwide.
- NVDA closed Nov. 2 at $202.06, down 1.26%, before the report came out. Pre-market Nov. 3 it sits at $206.07, up 1.98%.
The closest parallel I can find is Nvidia's own cash flow logic: it keeps selling every GPU and lets the cloud operators carry the China mix problem. I'd watch how Chinese cloud providers respond and whether rival chipmakers get the same pressure, since that decides if this stays an Nvidia move or becomes the industry rule.
