$SHOP's 49 cent EPS beat will get quoted first, but I'd put more weight on GMV and gross profit, which is why the stock was at $132.45 pre-market on Nov. 3, down 15.22% from its $156.22 close.
- Adjusted EPS rose 44% year over year to 49 cents and beat estimates. GMV of $119.2B and gross profit of $1.781B came in below cited analyst estimates, and those are the demand numbers.
- Revenue of $3.742B grew 32% year over year. IBD had consensus at $3.775B while other reports called it in line, so calling it a miss depends on whose estimate you use.
- Q4 guidance is already out: low-thirties revenue growth and high-twenties gross-profit-dollar growth. What I'm watching next is whether the holiday quarter actually lands there, since gross profit is guided to grow slower than revenue.
- Reports had the premarket drop as deep as 20% before it eased to about 15% by the snapshot. The regular session will show whether that cushion holds.
Measured read: a slight GMV miss on a 32% grower got punished hard, and I think the holiday GMV print decides whether this was a blip. Could be wrong, but that's the number I'd track before calling it a real slowdown.
