The number I keep coming back to is HPE's 112% year-to-date gain, per Fortune, which sits next to roughly a quarter of its value lost in the past month. When a stock gives back that much that fast, a CEO saying 'zero exposure' to circular AI financing tells you which risk investors are pricing.
- David Solomon, speaking November 3 at Hong Kong's financial leaders summit, said demand for AI-related dealmaking remains 'very robust.' He also noted tech supercycles are uneven and investors can lose money. That is a read on financing demand.
- Antonio Neri told Fortune HPE has 'zero exposure' to the circular equity, funding, and supply arrangements among chipmakers, hyperscalers, AI labs, and cloud providers. That is his own claim about HPE.
- $HPE closed November 2 at $51.16, down about 7.1% in a broad tech and AI selloff that followed Intel's weak outlook. Pre-market on November 3 it was at $52.14, up 1.91%.
- The two CEOs answered different questions. Solomon spoke to whether money is flowing into AI deals. Neri spoke to who is tangled up in the structure behind it.
My measured read: demand and structure are separate risks, and the market is starting to price the second one. I'll be watching which bank and vendor CEOs pick a side on circular financing as more earnings calls come in.
