Amazon reportedly fell to about $214 after hours following its Q3 results, roughly 12% below its $243.79 pre-release close. A later report put the shares at $225.99, still down 7.3% from that close. Revenue and EPS missed estimates, and the Q4 revenue outlook midpoint came in below consensus.
I keep coming back to AWS growth and what Amazon is spending alongside it. AWS revenue rose 39.3% year on year to $46.0 billion, above the $45.29 billion estimate. That is the figure I find most encouraging in the report.
Q3 capital expenditure was $77.3 billion versus a $58.7 billion estimate. Amazon also reaffirmed its outlook for about $220 billion in 2026 cash capital expenditure, while trailing-twelve-month free cash flow was negative $42.4 billion. I want to see AWS growth earn that funding over time.
Online-store sales grew 2% to $68.47 billion, below the $69.68 billion estimate. My question is how this balance develops from here: AWS is growing quickly, but one strong quarter does not settle what that spending will produce. For me, the AWS result deserves attention, while the spending and retail figures deserve just as much scrutiny.
