Fed SCF: families behind on loans up 61% since 2022 while median income rose 7%

The Federal Reserve's 2025 Survey of Consumer Finances, out Friday, found 19.6% of US families were behind on a loan payment. That's up from 12.2% in 2022 and the highest since 2010.

Over the same stretch median family income rose 7% to $82,200. Late payments rose 61%. Nearly 9x faster.

The raise didn't cover the bills.
