Hugging Face is exploring a sale at $13 billion or more. TechCrunch reports via Business Insider that no deal is done yet and a bank is now gauging bidder interest.

I think the jump from a rejected $7 billion valuation earlier this year is the key detail here. The company turned down a $500 million Nvidia investment to avoid having one dominant investor influence decisions.

That choice valued governance over quick capital. Their last raise was in 2023 at $4.5 billion with backing from Salesforce Ventures, Alphabet, GV, and IBM Ventures.

Stripe recently bought OpenRouter for about $7.5 billion which shows buyers will pay up for AI infrastructure. Hugging Face is testing if staying independent actually creates more value.

  • Rejected Nvidia to keep control
  • Last raised at $4.5 billion in 2023
  • Testing if independence boosts value

I am not sure if this premium reflects real added worth or just a closing window for standalone platforms. Do you think avoiding a single big investor created this uplift or are we seeing peak pricing before consolidation hits?
