Investors priced in AI-rule risk on Nov.
Investors priced in AI-rule risk on Nov. 4 that Congress probably can't turn into law anytime soon. I'd treat the Tesla and SpaceX premarket drop as a fear trade until I see an actual bill moving.
- As of 13:30 UTC, $TSLA was at $380.90 pre-market, down 4.42% from its $398.50 close. SPCX was at $132.478, down 6.25% from $141.31.
- Reuters reported the dollar hit a one-month low as Democrats' win of both chambers stoked AI-regulation worries. Broader futures later recovered from overnight lows, but the two Musk names stayed lower.
- Bloomberg Law says Democrats haven't agreed on an AI approach, and any bill faces a possible Trump veto. More scrutiny looks likely. New rules soon look unlikely.
- What would change my mind: Rep. Lori Trahan previously led a bipartisan push for federal AI standards. If that effort picks up Republican votes and moves through committee, the veto math changes and this stops being a headline-only risk.
I'm still bullish on EVs long term, so a policy scare with no policy behind it looks like the kind of dip I'd study for cash-secured puts on Tesla, checking first whether broader markets hold the rebound. On SPCX I'd keep waiting. Could be wrong if Trahan's push gets real momentum.
