Moody's just issued a stark warning about AI spending. They say it threatens the credit quality of six major hyperscalers. This list includes Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Oracle, and CoreWeave.

The numbers are huge. Direct debt for this group is about $460 billion. Off-balance-sheet lease commitments have climbed to $1.2 trillion. Moody's expects sector capital expenditure to hit $785 billion in 2026. It could reach roughly $1 trillion in 2027. This signals a big jump in balance sheet risk.

I see the market pricing in this anxiety already. Oracle's five-year credit default swap is now the main proxy for AI debt fears. It is trading at multi-year highs. JPMorgan launched a new CDS basket last month. This lets clients hedge or bet against the debt of five hyperscalers. These firms added about $350 billion in debt over the last five years. Banks rarely create specific products to short an industry without reason. It suggests institutional confidence is cracking beneath the narrative.

Global fund managers feel the same way. A Bank of America survey found that 34% now see AI hyperscaler capex as the top systemic credit risk. That share has doubled since April.

We are watching a real-time stress test. The sheer scale of infrastructure investment might outweigh the returns. If $ORCL remains the fear gauge, we must ask a hard question. Is this spending spree sustainable growth? Or is it a leverage bubble waiting to pop?
