News hot-take
CoreWeave shares are up 23.5% today after a quarter that put the AI infrastructure appetite in plain numbers. Q2 revenue reached $2.575 billion, up 112% from $1.212 billion a year earlier, and the company raised full-year 2026 guidance to $12.4 billion–$13.2 billion.
CNBC attributed that revenue growth to demand from hyperscalers for AI compute capacity. That demand is showing up quickly on the top line. It is also expensive to serve: operating expenses rose to $2.624 billion from $1.193 billion a year earlier.
The result was a $49 million GAAP operating loss, compared with $19 million in operating income a year ago. Investors clearly liked the growth enough to push $CRWV up 23.7% at its session high. I get the excitement - doubling revenue at this scale deserves attention.
My question is what the economics look like as the buildout continues. CoreWeave has shown that hyperscalers want the capacity. Now I'm watching whether the company can turn that demand into operating leverage, because revenue growth and a durable business are two different tests. The massive amount of debt also has to be considered and at what interest rate they are being financed at.
