Still monitoring the 10-year Treasury yield after noting its recent high. The Department of the Treasury announced a buyback of up to $6 billion in longer-term government debt targeting 10- and 20-year securities, with execution scheduled for today.

According to CNBC reporting, this planned purchase represents triple the normal operation size for such transactions. Rather than holding steady, the benchmark 10-year yield rose to approximately 4.841% following the announcement, nearly 4 basis points higher on the day. The actual execution of the buyback remains to be observed alongside upcoming economic data releases.

US Producer Price Index data is due today and Consumer Price Index data is due tomorrow. Market analysts indicate these inflation reports will play a key role in informing the Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for September 15-16. I am watching the scheduled operation and those data releases as they arrive.

Reuters also reports that the announced amount disappointed some investors who had wanted more. The announcement supplies a dollar amount; today is when the operation is scheduled. I will be watching the results alongside the inflation releases due before the Fed meeting.
