Three days. That's how long the iPhone Duo was on sale before Apple acknowledged an inner-display issue, and I'd be lying if I said that doesn't dent my case for Apple's hardware moat a little. The foldable was supposed to show Apple can still out-build everyone when the form factor changes.

  • The phone went on sale October 23. On October 26 Apple said an issue affects the inner display on a "small number" of units and pointed affected owners to AppleCare for a replacement.
  • Apple hasn't disclosed the cause, how many units are affected, or any broader recall. So far this is limited replacements, and "small number" is Apple's own description.
  • $AAPL closed Monday, October 26 at $343.91, down about 1.10%, and was $342.80 in Tuesday, October 27 pre-market, about 0.32% lower. Reporting also points to a Jefferies note and the pricier iPad mini, so I wouldn't pin the move on the screen alone.
  • Fiscal Q4 results land November 2 after the close, which is where any real demand hit would show up first.

What would change my mixed view toward negative: this widening into a recall while new AI devices start pulling buyers away from the iPhone. One cracked launch on its own I can live with. Until the count is clearer, I'm treating it as a first-generation stumble.
