$XP is up 2.13% premarket at $16.04 on October 27, after closing down 48.36% the day before. A tick like that after a halving tells me very little yet, so here's what I'm watching before I form a read on Brazil-linked names.
- Lula beat Flávio Bolsonaro 51.79% to 48.21% in the October 25 runoff, per reported official results. Market participants describe a reversal of positions built around a Bolsonaro win, plus worries about fiscal discipline, borrowing costs and the currency.
- The Ibovespa fell 17.34% intraday on October 26, tripping a 30-minute circuit breaker, then closed down 13.88%. The real ended about 8.21% weaker against the dollar after early reports of a drop above 10%.
- NU closed at $12.59, down 16.95%, after a reported premarket slide around 21-23%. It's at $12.72 premarket on October 27, up 1.03%. Neither company announced anything; this was a country repricing.
- The first thing I'd watch is the real. Whether Brazil's central bank steps in to steady it probably decides if this stabilizes or keeps grinding.
My measured read: until the currency settles, these small premarket bounces look like relief rather than a turn, and I could be wrong if the panic fades faster than I expect. Is the real the tell everyone else is watching too?
